SEAN Stafford’s Ballyv Rosie was the Champion Loose Performance Filly (three-year-old) at the Gallagher Dublin Horse Show last Thursday. Led up by Michael Bowe, this filly scored 96 points, ahead of the next in line by an impressive seven points. She scored 17 for conformation, 25 for canter, 18 for technique, 18 for scope, 10 for reflexes and eight for attitude.

By Chacoon Blue out of a Luidam mare, she was bred by Sean Stafford of Ballyvarogue Stables and, according to Michael Bowe, was sold prior to the event to Ethen Ahearne and Mikey and Annemarie Pender. “They saw her at the qualifier and then came to see her jump at home and then, once she passed the vet, the deal was done and we were thrilled,” he said. “I produced her myself from wild in the field in April to winning at Dublin, so it’s unbelievable.”

Bowe had a great week, also winning the older of the two Performance Irish Draught classes with his father JJ’s Patrickswell Sherry, who is also now sold.

Reserve Champion here was Trade Horse Ltd’s filly by Ermitage Kalone x Cancara Z, who was bred by James Keane.She scored 17 for conformation, 24 for canter, 15 for technique, 17 for scope, eight for reflexes and eight for attitude.

Third place went to the Ciara Woods-bred and owned Alpha Miss V by Vittorio (HOLST) out of Tosh C (Pacino). Tosh C belongs to the Woods family of Killacorn Stables of Emyvale, Co Monaghan and she also had two other offspring qualified for the Show including Alpha SRC, a five-year-old by Corporal VDL and Alpha Miss A, a four-year-old by Alicante. Alpha Miss V scored 16 for conformation, 24 for canter, 16 for technique, 16 for scope, eight for reflexes and eight for attitude to finish on 88.

Seamus Carew’s chesnut Tulaigh Clover (Tyson (KWPN) x Je T’Aime Flamenco (BWP)) was fourth on 87 points, while Liam Collum’s Linkardstown Poppy Sitte (Button Sitte x Guidam), bred by Catherine Curran, was fifth on 86. Rounding out the top six was Marion Phelan’s unnamed bay (Comilfo Plus Z (WEWB) x Dakar VDL (KWPN)), who was bred by the owner and led up by Thomas Quigley.

Geldings/colts

Ado Moran and Fergus Lawlor’s Zero 23 won the Michael Osborne Perpetual Cup for the Champion Loose Performance Colt/Gelding (three-year-old). By Carrera Vdl (KWPN) x Eurocommerce Berlin (HOLST), this gelding was bred by John Kenny and he scored 18 for conformation, 24 for canter, 18 for technique, 18 for scope, nine for reflexes and eight for attitude to finish on 95. Moran and Lawlor also had success in the three-year-old potential event horse class, where their Ballyv Annie (Diarado x Ard Vdl Douglas was third.

“We bought him at the Cavan elite foal sale,” Moran said. “He has loads of blood, is very scopey and is very careful with a good brain - all the ingredients to make him a good jumper under saddle. I will break him over the winter and we hope to retain him to jump next year.”

Reserve champion here was Brian Lenehan and Conor Healy’s Olsh Conthablue, a brown stallion by Conthargos x Chacco Blue (MECKL), who was bred by the owners. He scored 16 for conformation, 23 for canter, 17 for technique, 17 for scope, nine for reflexes and eight for attitude to finish on 90.

Third place went to Alan Connor and Stephen Howley’s SC With Or Without You, a bay gelding by Sligo Candy Boy (ISH) x Harlequin Du Carel (SF), bred by Connor. He scored 16 for conformation, 24 for canter, 15 for technique, 16 for scope, eight for reflexes and eight for attitude to finish on 87.

Raheenagurren Stables’ Miscellaneous CS, a stallion by SIEC Livello (HOLST) x Sandro Boy (OLD) and bred by Mark Hession was fourth on 85, while John and Geraldine Flynn’s Grennanstown Onceinalifetime, a gelding by Imnotafraid Fortuna (KWPN) x OBOS Quality 004 and bred by the owners, was fifth on 84. Rounding out the top six here was Catríona Page’s Brookfield Lux Exquisitte, a grey gelding by Button Sitte x Lux Z (HANN), who scored 83.5.
