Wurmel wins two classes

FOLLOWING a three-week break, the Midlands and Western Region of Dressage Ireland held its second show of the year last Sunday at the Clifden Pony Sales Arena, where eight of the 13 classes were listed as Inter Regional qualifiers.

All those who competed before Vida Tansey (List 1) did so in lovely weather while, according to show organiser Carmel Curran: “There was noticeable improvement in those who attended over the past three shows, with combinations qualifying for the Inter Regional Final and the Nationals. Once again, we had great help from all the younger riders at the show.”

Double

Judith Wurmel recorded a qualifying double when topping the scores in the Preliminary DI18 (71.04%) and the Novice DI21 (69.48) on her eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Dreamhill Doria (Ballineen It’s William - Dreamhill Donna, by Huntingfield Rebel).

An uncontested double was posted in the FEI Pony Rider tests by Cadhla Curran on the nine-year-old Hanoverian gelding HS (Valdez HS - Seven Mountain Dusty, by Debrino). The same young rider saw off one rival in the Elementary qualifier (DI55), where she was awarded a score of 70.18 on the seven-year-old German riding pony Cosmo Rubin (Cosmo Royale - Caprice, by Cocky Man).

The highest score of the day (72.65) was recorded in the best supported class of the day, the Intro qualifier, where Ciara McNamara saw off five rivals on the currently DI-unregistered four-year-old Connemara mare Ballynakillew Countess (Drumbad Fletcher Moss - Glencarrig Annie Power, by Glencarrig Prince).
