THE judges’ committee of Dressage Ireland ran a restricted show last Thursday week at Killossery Lodge Stud where, as mentioned in today’s news pages, the emphasis was on judges’ training and examinations.
For those riders who kindly gave of their time however, there was a competitive side to the proceedings. The results were dominated by Co Westmeath’s Maeve Deverell who, riding a trio of home-bred 12-year-old Irish Sport Horses, topped the leaderboard in three of the four classes judged by Britain’s Claire Deitrick.
In the 10-runner Elementary DI52, the 15-year-old Category 2 competitor achieved a score of 71.11% on board Annaharvey Rozendal, a chesnut mare by Radolin out of Culnahailie, by Silver Wonder, who has been placed five times in EI110 (J) company this season and in the CCI1*-Intro at the Ballindenisk International in April.
There were 13 starters in the Medium DI67 where Deverell’s winning partner was Annaharvey Firefly (68.85%), a bay daughter of Floriscount out of the Cavalier Royale mare Annaharvey Royale.
The treble came up in the Advanced Medium class where, riding the FEI Junior team test, Deverell posted the highest score (68.48) on board Annaharvey Dunowen, the dun gelding by Radolin who she partnered on the European Children on Horses dressage team in 2023 and on whom she has won two EI100 (J) and three EI110 (J) classes this season.
Deitrick also judged the Novice DI27A where her overall winner was another Category 2 rider, Maura Moore-McCune who recorded a score of 68.28% on her mother Joey’s 19-year-old Welsh chesnut gelding Crofs Clover.
Lydia Dawson popped over from her family’s relatively nearby Kilronan Equestrian Centre to top the scores in the Dermot Cannon-judged Preliminary DI6 with her Dutch Warmblood gelding Odjee Toto (71.73), a six-year-old by Glocks Toto Jr.
