ANNA Radford was presented with the Christina Mulvey Memorial Trophy by dressage youth development squad coach Anne Marie Dunphy at this week’s South East Region’s squad training.
The perpetual trophy is given by Kieran Mulvey in memory of his late wife Christina, along with an annual training bursary and is awarded to ‘a young rider who is dedicated to the sport, who shows true horsemanship and potential as a rider’.
The SER youth development squad training was introduced by the South East Region Dressage committee in 2008 and has been running successfully since. The aim of the programme is to provide youth athletes with a broad range education to develop all-round horsemanship skills.
Squad training days, delivered by HSI Level 3 dressage coach Anne Marie Dunphy and BHSI performance coach Jillie Rogers include one-to-one dressage coaching sessions, equitation theory, practical stable management, competition preparation and test riding training. Since its inception the programme has seen many of its graduates go on to compete internationally and at European Championship level.
Previous winners, since the trophy was first presented, have been: 2019 Rachel Carr and Calevador May Blossom (2019), Oscar O’Connor with Top Hero 2 (2020 and 2021), Lily Larkin and Blokland’s Hoeve’s Amor (2022), Kate Murphy with Top Hero 2 (2023) and Anna Radford with Essenar Double Dutch (2024).
