THE Midland and Western Region of Dressage Ireland held a low-key, seven-class show last Sunday at the Foy family’s Drummindoo Stud near Westport where Erin O’Neill recorded a treble in front of Danielle Carey (List 3A).

True, this wasn’t such a difficult feat to achieve as O’Neill recorded uncontested wins in the Novice 24 on her own Beola Boy (71.50%) and in the Elementary 56A on Alana Cazabon’s Chablis (70).

She rode both in the three-runner Elementary 52 where she scored 70.83 to win on the 19-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Chablis and 69.58 to place second overall on the eight-year-old Connemara gelding Beola Boy (Anna Dooneen – Sunflower Playgirl, by Spiddal Playboy).

Nina Reinbold Molloy had to work a bit harder to land an overall Preliminary double on her home-bred five-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding A Valiant Prince (Tullyboy Storm – Tomgar Queen B, by Lucky Gift), scoring 71.60 in the four-runner DI4 judged by Helen Nolan (List 5) and 70 in the Carey-assessed DI8 where there was one other starter.

The only combination to appear before Carey in the Medium 65, where they scored 65.94, was Simone Hession and her traditional ISH mare Beezies Dusk Cruise (CC Captain Cruise – Beezies Rose, by Moot Point), an eight-year-old home-bred bay. There were seven starters, all unregistered, in the two Intro classes judged by Nolan. In the Intro B, her leaderboard was topped on 75.88 by Laura Moran with the seven-year-old dun gelding Old Meadow Apache.

In the Intro C, Amy Grady narrowly occupied the top spot on 66.19 with Liam Lynskey’s ‘Felix’, a four-year-old newcomer by DS Are You With Me out of a Moylough Bouncer mare. Grady claimed the win by virtue of her higher collective mark (47 to 46) as Holly Walsh Counihan also scored 66.19 on board her 17-year-old bay mare Clew Bay Queenie.

Three combinations appeared before Nolan in the Trailblazer Preliminary class where she awarded her highest score (73.40) to Emily Duffy riding the 15-year-old grey gelding Mr Freddo.
