THE South East Region of Dressage Ireland held the only affiliated show in the country last weekend, when running on Sunday at Barnadown where there was a panel of five judges on duty.

Michael Moore (List 1) and Bernie Webb (List 2) assessed those competing at Medium level and above with the former awarding his highest score of the day, 68.09, in the two-runner FEI Junior Individual class to Cael Shanahan on Suzanne Kendrick’s eight-year-old gelding Santana.

In the Team Test judged by Webb, it was the other combination at this level, Ellen Mooney with her mother Heli’s nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Mariposa who earned the higher score of 68.33.

There were two starters also in the FEI Pony Riders’ classes, but here there was just one winner, Niamh Winters and her father Guy’s 18-year-old British Sport Horse mare Ode To Shannon, who scored 67.03 in the Moore-judged Individual test and 68.57 in the Webb-assessed Team test.

The only other higher graded double was an uncontested one recorded in the Advanced 101 and the Prix St George by Gilly Crawford, who scored 65.29 in both on her 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Majestic Heartbeaker (Womanizer - Flojo, by Mr Majestic).

There were no winners in common between the two judges in the more competitive classes, which was understandable at Advanced Medium level as Millie Tame, who, on 66.62, saw off two rivals in the DI90 on Topolino, didn’t contest the DI95, where Taylor Deane recorded the higher of two scores (62.64) on Insticator BS.

Anne Marie Dunphy topped the overall leaderboard in the six-runner Medium 65 on Pedigree OK (67.66), but wasn’t among the starters in the four-strong DI73, where Oscar O’Connor posted the highest score (67.33) on Funkstar.

Webb also judged the five-strong Elementary 51, where she awarded her highest score (69.81) to Sorrell Klatzko and the seven-year-old home-bred ISH mare Million Dreams SK (Millennium - Desert Doll, by Desert Moon). Again, that combination didn’t tackle the DI53, where the overall leaderboard of Jean Halpenny (List 3) was topped by Barbara Delahoyde on Klein Roderjis Gold Fee (70).

There were just three starters in both Novice classes where, riding her six-year-old home-bred ISH gelding Extraordinary Times (Jack The Robin - Try Time Diva, by Try-Time), Aisling Quinn claimed the overall honours on 67.76 in the DI21 judged by Vicky Cloney (List 5). Halpenny’s winner of the DI39 was Bee Sykes with Con Caballito (67.59).

The largest fields of the day started in the Preliminary 5A (10) and 16 (eight) where, riding his five-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Ready To Shine AVO, Gerald Bloomer recorded a double as he received the highest scores of Cloney (72.32) and Halpenny (69.40) respectively.

Two classes at Preliminary, Novice and Elementary levels were restricted to Junior riders, with Emily Grimes seeing off three rivals in both Elementary classes on the former international event pony Millridge Buachaill Boy, scoring 67.96 in the Webb-judged DI51 and 70 in the Halpenny-assessed DI53.

The previous day, when representing the Bray Branch at Killossery Lodge Stud, Grimes and the 21-year-old Templebready Fear Bui gelding recorded their third win in this year’s Connolly’s Red Mills/Irish Pony Club eventing series to lie third in the Foran league at Junior level.

Lauren Blake recorded a cross-Grade double in front of Cloney on her mother Anita’s 13-year-old grey gelding Cleighrane Warrior, scoring 70.79 in the four-runner Preliminary 5A and 70.34 in the Novice 21, where she was the only starter.

The only combination to appear before Halpenny in the Novice 39 was Ava Mooney with her mother Heli’s eight-year-old Connemara gelding Christopher Columbus (Kippure Columbus - Island Heather, by Coosheen Thyme), who posted a score of 67.24. Earlier, the same judge had been faced by three starters in the Preliminary 16, where her overall leaderboard was topped on 67.80 by Cael Shanahan, here riding Josephine Delahoyde’s five-year-old home-bred ISH gelding Marlton Glamour Man (Glamourdale - Sverige, by Swarovski).

Today, the Eastern Region are running their monthly show at Marlton, while CoilÓg is the venue for tomorrow’s Leinster Region show. Next weekend, the Northern Region are staging their NAF two-day Festival at Necarne Castle, where DAFM young horse classes are included in the schedule. On the Sunday, the North Munster Region are also holding a show at Ballycahane.
