LAST Thursday week, at the Skevanish Equestrian Centre, the South Munster Region held the fourth and last qualifying leg of their O’Brien’s midweek summer league, the final of which takes place next Saturday, July 12th, at Ballindenisk.
Three judges, Joan Ahern (List 2), Elena Satalkina (List 4) and Una O’Donnell (List 5), were engaged to assess a total of 17 league and non-league classes at this afternoon/evening fixture with interest here being on the nine league qualifiers.
Ahern judged the best-supported class of the day, the nine-runner Preliminary DI8, where she awarded her highest score, 71.15%, to Caroline Marwood on Rose McCarthy’s seven-year-old Connemara gelding Silverhill Boy (by Moorlands Snowy River).
Four combinations appeared before Ahern in the Medium DI67 where the highest score (66.36%) was achieved by her daughter, Rosemarie Ahern O’Gorman, on the ex-racehorse Khwarizmi, a 10-year-old Algorithims gelding, while there was an uncontested win for Sue Smallman on Gloriant H (68.09) in the Prix St George.
Satalkina judged two league classes. Topping her overall leaderboard in the seven-strong Novice DI21 was Aine Griffin with her 13-year-old Warmblood gelding Cocktail De Riverland (70.69%) while Rosemary Gaffney did so in the four-runner Elementary DI56A on board her seven-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Norabel (67.90%).
O’Donnell judged the six-strong DI Intro Test C where the highest score (65.95%) was achieved by Sinead O’Regan riding the five-year-old Connemara mare Brackhowney Roisin (by Doire Mhianaigh Cascade).
She also judged the three Trailblazers’ qualifiers and awarded her highest score in this section (65.60) to Amy Hearne on the 14-year-old Welsh gelding Brandon Zimbabwe (by Gigman Orinoco) in the eight-runner Junior league.
