THE Northern Region held a show last Sunday at the Gransha Equestrian Centre, which was established 40 years ago and is celebrating that fact this evening.

The trio of Dressage Ireland-affiliated judges on duty – Clare Fitzsimmons (List 4), Joan Adrain (List 6) and Martina McKinley (List 6) – were joined by British Dressage List 3 judge Julie Green who awarded her highest score (68.71%) to Caroline Herron when she recorded an uncontested victory in the Medium DI77 on board Clantara Lord Louis.

Home-bred

In the four-runner, Green-judged Medium BD6, Herron and her home-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding, a seven-year-old by Hoeks Ludo W, claimed the win on a score of 67.78%.

Ruth Cousins also recorded a double on Fran Rowlatt-McCormick’s home-bred ISH gelding Mon Ami Beauvallet, riding the eight-year-old Centre Stage bay to victory in the Adrain-judged two-runner DI Intro B (72.35%) before landing the eight-strong Preliminary DI8 where McKinley awarded the combination an overall winning score of 70.38.

Another rider to strike twice, and did so in the two dedicated Junior competitions on her mother Lisa’s Midnight Minty, was Amelia Wheeler. In the McKinley-judged Preliminary DI8, Wheeler and the seven-year-old piebald gelding posted an uncontested victory on 71.92 while in the Fitzsimmons-judged Novice DI27 they saw off their sole rivals when scoring 68.62.

Ten combinations appeared in the Novice DI27a where Fitzsimmons’ overall winner on 70.17% was Jane Allen-Collins riding the home-bred ISH mare Lougherne Atlanta, a nine-year-old well-related bay by Antaeus.

Fitzsimmons also judged the nine-runner Preliminary BD6, where the overall highest score was posted by Kristen Rose Kleinman on the unregistered Guest (71.8%), and the nine-runner Elementary DI55 won by Linda McIlwaine on her ISH gelding Roundthorn Oreo (69.29), a six-year-old bay son of Vittorio.

Highest score

Seven combinations appeared before Green in the Elementary BD6 where she awarded her highest score (67.88) to Sharon Getty and her ISH mare Taptoo, an 11-year-old bay by Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan.

This was the third leg of the Northern Region’s Healy’s Haylage summer league, the next round of which is scheduled for Danescroft on Saturday next, June 28th.
