BARNADOWN was the venue for last Sunday’s Dressage Ireland South East Region show, where Jane Whitaker (List 1), Lynne Cassidy (List 3), Jillie Rogers (List 3) and Susan Patterson (List 4) formed the judging panel.

Whitaker faced her largest field of six in the Medium DI67, where her overall leaderboard was topped on 65.15% by Joanne Logue with her eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Little Lottie (Cormint - Diamond Chin Jenkins, by Diamond Chin).

Rachel Dowley of this parish saw off one rival when scoring 65.88 in the Advanced Medium DI90 on board her Hanoverian gelding GFL Flashdance, an eight-year-old son of Franziskus. Gilly Crawford recorded uncontested wins in the sole Advanced class (66.32) and the Prix St George (63.88) with her 10-year-old ISH mare Majestic Heartbreaker (Womanizer - Flojo, by Mr Majestic). So too, on 65.85, did Sorrell Klatzko with her 13-year-old Westphalian gelding Turbo.

The same two starters appeared in the FEI Junior classes and the same combination, Ellen Mooney on the nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Mariposa, won both, scoring 67.15 in the Individual test and 65 in the Team test.

Disappointingly, there was just one entry in the two young horse classes, Rachel Carr with her five-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Ramira (76.60) and Anne Marie Dunphy with her year-older KWPN-registered mare Pedigree OK (79.40). Dunphy doubled up on 74.14 with Pedigree OK in the Jillie Rogers-judged six-strong Medium 77.

In the non-restricted classes, Rogers awarded her highest score of the day in the Preliminary DI6, where Ciara Kelly topped her overall leaderboard on 76.54 with her 10-year-old ISH mare Fanlehane Nariah (Sibon W - Rossaguile Q, by Castlecomer Q).

Her other overall winners were Millie Tame riding her nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding Topolino (71.79) in the seven-runner Elementary DI55, Emily Grimes on 75.71 with the 21-year-old ISH gelding Millridge Buachail Bui (Templebready Fear Bui) in the Junior Elementary DI55 and Sophie Byrne on 63.27 with the 11-year-old Connemara mare Loughanageer Owens Rose (Ballydaniel Christopher - Blue Lands Rosey, by Rory Rasputin) in the Junior Preliminary DI6.

Grimes and Millridge Buchaill Bui recorded an uncontested win in the Junior Elementary DI52, where they were awarded a score of 70% by Lynne Cassidy, whose winner on 67.33 of the earlier two-runner Junior Novice DI24A was Ava Mooney with the eight-year-old Connemara gelding Christopher Columbus (Kippure Columbus - Island Heather, by Coosheen Thyme).

Cassidy also judged the non-restricted seven-runner Novice 24A, where her overall leaderboard was topped by Melanie Hammel and her 17-year-old bay gelding Taylor Dandy (72.67).

Barbara Delahoyde dropped down to Barnadown from Marlton for Saturday’s show with the Dutch/Welsh-cross gelding Klein Roderijs Gold Fee and she and the 11-year-old dun won the Susan Patterson-judged non-restricted four-runner Elementary DI51 on 67.04.

Four combinations also appeared before Patterson in the non-restricted Novice DI27A, where she awarded her highest score of 68.62 to Eve Rafter and her 11-year-old French thoroughbred gelding Fall Out Boy d’Ana (Khalkevi - Danse Cantilienne, by Danehill Dancer).

Earlier, but also in open company, Patterson assessed nine Preliminary DI8 tests, being most impressed overall by that of the previously-mentioned Ciara Kelly and Fanlehane Nariah, who scored 69.81.

Riding the same test before Patterson, but in restricted Junior company, Laura Bentley recorded the higher of two scores (61.35) on the eight-year-old bay ISH gelding Diamond Fredrick (Lancelot - Knockash Diamond, by Creggan Diamond), while the sole starter before the same judge in the Junior Novice DI27A was Ella Kidd, who scored 57.76 riding the seven-year-old ISH gelding Sandyhill Aladdin (Winningmood van de Arenberg - Legaland Priceless, by Sandro Boy).
