AS the Judges’ Committee of Dressage Ireland are holding their annual judges’ gala today at Kildalton College, there are no DI-affiliated shows this weekend. However, regional competitive action on the flat continues under AIRC rules.

Tomorrow, at Gurteen College, the Friary club is hosting the third leg of the West Midlands Region’s autumn league, the final of which will be run by members of the Golden Grove club on Sunday next, October 18th, at the Roscrea Equestrian Centre.

In the South Leinster Region, the Hollybrook club are running their annual inter-club dressage league at Brennanstown Riding School. They held the first leg last Sunday, the second takes place tomorrow, the third is scheduled for Sunday next, October 18th, with the final being staged seven days later on Sunday, October 25th.

First legs

There is a lot going on in the vast West Region where Clubs in the North West are making the most of dates and venues by running both dressage and show jumping leagues over five weeks, the first legs of which take place tomorrow at the Greenacres Stud and Equestrian Centre in Convoy.

The other dates and venues are Sunday next, October 18th (Eglinton), Sunday, November 1st (Castle Irvine, Necarne), Sunday, November 15th (Greenacres) and November 22nd (Castle Irvine, Necarne). A horse-rider combination must take part in three of the five legs to be eligible for league prizes, with double points on offer on the final day.

The South West Region are also running both their dressage and show jumping leagues at Skevanish on the same days. They start tomorrow, run over the two next Sundays in October, with the final legs taking place on the first Sunday in November.

The North East Region have also been running an autumn dressage league, sponsored by the Horse Mad Store, with all three legs and the final, being held at the Cheval showgrounds.

The Copperfield and Cheval clubs held the first two rounds, on September 19th and October 3rd, with Castle Hill hosting the third leg on Saturday next, October 17th. Kilronan members will be running the final on Saturday, October 31st.

The West Leinster Region have already held two of the five legs of their Furey Consulting/Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital autumn league. The remaining dates and venues are Bank Holiday Monday, October 26th at Calliaghstown, Sunday, November 1st at CoilÓg and Saturday, November 7th at JAG Equestrian.
