THE South Munster Region of Dressage Ireland, who are supporting the Inter Regional Final at Ballindenisk next month, staged a show last Sunday at Greybrook West Equestrian near Bandon.

While there were four non-restricted classes, the emphasis at this one-arena venue was mainly on qualification for the Finals with Joan Ahern (List 2) judging those who competed at Novice level and above.

Four combinations appeared before her in the DI21, where the comfortable winner on 67.41% was Sinead O’Regan with the 10-year-old Connemara gelding Alana’s Rambler (Loughmor Rambler - Church Dawn, by Oisin).

Ahern judged four other qualifying classes, which had a single starter apiece, and she faced just two horse/rider combinations.

Lene Rose scored 67.78 in the Elementary DI51 and 63.91 in the Medium DI65 on board the 20-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Fernhill Nearly Darc (Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan - Clover Savannah, by Clover Hill).

At Advanced Medium level, Co Mayo’s Rebecca McGrath scored 66.52 in the FEI Junior Team Test and 67.65 in the Individual Test on her mother Sinead’s 14-year-old British-bred Hanoverian mare Summersong Caledonia (Sandro Hit - Donner Daylight, by Blue Hors Don Schufro).

Shelley Lombard judged the three Trailblazer qualifiers where the Fleming sisters, Rebecca and Stephanie, respectively won the two-runner Mini (67.06) and three-runner Under 12 (64.82) classes with Orla Whelton’s 17-year-old part-bred Welsh mare Whiteleaze Secret Temptation (by Cusop Dimension).

There were three starters in the Junior Trailblazer class where Lombard awarded her highest score (66.43) to Romy Wilson riding the unregistered 14-year-old Connemara mare Lisnagra Cherry (Shannonside Kilmore Jacob - Carnduff Swallow, by Coosheen Thyme).

The day’s largest field of six appeared before Lombard in the non-qualifying Preliminary DI15, where her winner on 66.43 was Finola Craven with her 11-year-old chesnut mare Lady Vaillir Daughter (Flagmount Clover Diamond - Daisy Vaillir, by Black Walter).

Ahead of the Inter Regional Final on Saturday, April 18, the South Munster Region are offering further qualifying opportunities at their Winter Championship Show at Maryville Stables on Easter Monday, April 6th.
