HARRY Payne (British Dressage List 1) accepted an invitation from the Eastern Region of Dressage Ireland to judge at their show in Marlton Stud last Saturday, when the largest field he faced was in the six-runner Elementary DI55.

Here, Payne awarded his highest overall score (70.18%) to Oscar O’Connor on board his own and his mother Susan’s Funkstar (Foundation - Fanfare, by Sir Donnerhall I). The Co Wexford rider and the seven-year-old Oldenburg gelding also topped the overall scores in the eight-runner Elementary DI52, which was judged by Lindsey Ilona Brady (List 4), one of two Dressage Ireland judges on duty at Marlton, along with Lisa O’Brien (List 6).

Payne’s winner of the three-runner Grand Prix on 70.22 was Kevin Acres with Con McCarthy’s 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Ganesh (Jazz - Partouch, by Partout), who is currently unregistered with DI.

His winner of both Advanced level classes was Gilly Crawford, who scored 66.57 on Majestic Heartbreaker (Womanizer - Flojo, by Mr Majestic) in the three-runner DI100 before recording an uncontested 65.94 in the FEI Young Riders Preliminary test with her 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare.

In other competitive classes judged by Payne, the overall winners were Hannah Fielding who scored 66.09 in the three-runner Medium DI65 with her eight-year-old mare DWS Firelight (Fidertanz - Daylight B, by Donnersmarck), Alex Potter who scored 60.76 in the four-strong Medium DI67 with the 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Icco (Dantos HBC - Utina, by Goodtimes) and Alexandra Frei who scored 65.15 in the four-runner Advanced level FEI Junior Individual test with her 10-year-old Belgium Warmblood mare Quibelle Van De Vlindervallei (Messi Of Colors - Hinne, by Cabrio Van De Heffinck).

Aine Cafferkey was the only starter in the Inter I, but Payne was obviously impressed with her test on the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Leejoy (Fürsten-Look - U-Two, by Goodtimes) as he awarded her a score of 67.35.

While marked differently, Yulia Shulga achieved a score of 72.40 on the British Hanoverian mare Moonlight Romance (Mc Roy - Meklenborgs Vinka, by Blue Hors Don Romantic), who was the only animal to appear before Payne in the four-year-old class.
