VIDA Tansey (List 1) was the sole judge on duty at a low-key show staged by the Midland and Western Region of Dressage Ireland last Sunday at the Connemara sales grounds in Clifden.

The largest classes during the day saw four combinations contest the Preliminary DI18, the Novice DI26 and the Novice DI27A. The highest overall scores in the first (73.33%) and third (71.38) of these were recorded by Judith Wurmel on her eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Dreamhill Doria (Ballineen It’s William - Dreamhill Donna, by Huntingfield Rebel).

Erin O’Neill topped Tansey’s scores in the Novice DI26 on her eight-year-old Connemara gelding Beola Boy (Anna Dooneen - Sunflower Playgirl, by Spiddal Playboy) before recording an uncontested victory in the Medium DI65 with Alana Cazabon’s 19-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Chablis (59.69).

Sadhbh O’Toole likewise faced no rivals when scoring 66.62 in the Advanced Medium DI90 with Carmel Curran’s Hanoverian mare Dancing Espri, but saw off a twin attack in the FEI Junior Team test class, which she and the 14-year-old Denario won on a score of 68.79.

Second there on 67.12, Rebecca McGrath and her mother Sinead’s 14-year-old British Hanoverian mare Summersong Caledonia posted an uncontested win (67.94) in the FEI Junior Individual test.

Competing two German riding ponies for her mother Carmel, the show secretary, Cadhla Curran recorded an uncontested double in the FEI Pony Rider classes.

She scored 67% in the team test on the seven-year-old Cosmo Rubin, a chesnut gelding by Cosmo Royale, and 70.95 in the individual test with the nine-year-old HS, a liver chesnut son of Valdez HS.

Riding the only Dressage Ireland-registered animal in the three-runner Preliminary DI4 in the short arena, Meadhbh O’Neill posted the highest score of 69.40 on her four-year-old Connemara gelding Railway View Duster (Illaundurra Duster - Cois na hAbhainn New Beginning, by River Boy).

Mollie Faherty won both poorly-supported Trailblazers classes on board the six-year-old Connemara mare Coumbrack Cora (Maam Hero - Ballyard Lass, by Ballyard Prince).
