LIST 1 judge Bernie Foley spent considerably more time in her car on Sunday driving over and back to the Clifden Pony Sales Arena than she did judging at this Midland and Western Region show.

With so many other fixtures taking place throughout the region, including an Eventing Ireland one-day at Flowerhill and an arena eventing competition in Claremorris, there was a very small entry at Clifden where two riders completed doubles.

Sinead Heffernan did so at Novice level on her traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse gelding Bally J Casper (Black Hero - Memories Of Emly, by Pilsudski). She and the Fintan McGrath-bred seven-year-old scored 64.17% to see off their sole rivals in the DI24A before recording an uncontested victory in the DI27A (63.62).

Cadhla Curran also recorded a double, but on two different ponies owned by her mother Carmel in the FEI Pony Riders’ Tests, where she was the only competitor.

In the Team Test, she scored 70.14 with the German Riding Pony Cosmo Rubin, a seven-year-old chesnut gelding by Cosmo Royale, while in the Individual Test she scored 68.51 with the Hanoverian gelding HS, a nine-year-old chesnut by Valdez HS.
