WITH so much happening down the western seaboard at the weekend, there were just 15 starters, from the same number of entries, at last Sunday’s Midland and Western Region show at Drumindoo Stud where they were judged by Vida Tansey (List 1).

Nina Hartwell recorded a cross Grade double on Greyfort Lad, guiding the six-year-old grey gelding to an uncontested victory in the Preliminary DI15 where she posted the day’s highest score (71.07%), before seeing off one rival in the Novice DI23 where she was awarded 64.03.

The two-runner Novice DI26 was won by Aoibheann Joyce on the currently unregistered Connemara gelding Branchfield Dandy (61.03%) who, partnered by Alannah Joyce, was the sole entry in the Intro B, where they scored 64.71.

The 16-year-old son of Glenayre Silver Fox has displayed the versatility of the breed over the years having competed under the rules of Eventing Ireland, the Association of Irish Riding Clubs, the Royal Dublin Society and Dressage Ireland.

There were three starters in the Preliminary DI6, won by Cathal Owens riding Patricia Frost’s ISH mare Pepsis Command (64.81%), a six-year-old bay by Island Commander, and twice as many in the Trialblazers’ Preliminary DI6, where Tansey awarded her highest score to Katherine O’Malley and the unregistered Jessy VI (67.31).
