THE Midland and Western Region ran a low key show last Sunday at Drummindoo Stud where the sole judge on duty was the busy Vida Tansey (List 1).
Two riders recorded doubles, the first being British native Matthew Brint who partnered Hannah Gordon’s Irish Sport Horse gelding Are You Timothy to win the four-runner Novice DI23 (66.45%) before posting an uncontested victory in the DI26 (65.34).
A four-year-old by DS Are You With Me out of the Haarlem mare Harlem Diamond, who was show jumped by the owner’s father Matt, Are You Timothy is on livery with Ballycrory-based Brint as the Gordons’ yard is full. He is being aimed at the Dressage Ireland national championships.
Hannah herself won the day’s two Elementary classes but here she never faced a rival on Liam Lynskey’s Irish Draught stallion DS Ballagh Bouncer when scoring 65.86% in the DI46 and 64.48 in the DI50. Currently also on stud duty, the 13-year-old Moylough Bouncer grey is being aimed at the upcoming RDS performance ID qualifiers and at the Eventing Ireland Western Region one-day event at Dartfield at the end of next month.
Sinead McGrath won the seven-strong Preliminary DI15 on the home-bred Ballyj Max (67.50%), a four-year-old traditionally-bred ISH gelding by Black Hero. Tansey awarded her highest score of the day (67.88) to Simone Hession, winner of the three-runner DI6 on another home-bred TIH, Beezies Dawn Cruise, a nine-year-old mare by CC Captain Cruise, while Katie Owen landed the opening Trailblazers’ Preliminary DI6 on Tinkerliven Sunrise (66.54).
There are plans in place to extend the sand arena at Drummindoo where the Westport Horse and Pony Show is taking place tomorrow and on Bank Holiday Monday.
