STUART Crawford and Gavin Cromwell, who judged Wednesday evening’s Downpatrick Racecourse-sponsored racehorse to riding horse class, weren’t the only trainers to find themselves with a job in the Spar Main Arena at last week’s Balmoral Show.

On Thursday afternoon, Co Meath’s Thomas Coyle was called into service to leg up the judges on those horses who got through to the various hunter championships sponspored by Creightons. And this, after doing a full day at the same task in Horse Ring 1 on Wednesday.

I don’t know what Thomas had planned to undertake while his partner, Philippa Scott, judged the hunters, but I can’t imagine that being ‘legger upper’ was top of his to-do list!
