MILLIE Twomey’s trip to last week’s Balmoral Show proved well worthwhile as she won the mini championship on Marianne Power’s show hunter pony Rookery Haribo and then partnered that 12-year-old Welsh gelding by Uphill James Fox to claim the honours in the supreme mini championship.
In the mini section, the other winners were Jacob Barry riding Rhydygrug Peter Pan, Caitlin McMullon with Hollycreek Sir Sidney and Nicole O’Shaughnessy on board Carwgwyn Finality. It was the first ridden class winner, Annette McMullon’s Astral Heartbreaker 13-year-old Hollycreek Sir Sidney who stood reserve.
In the Jod-Z ridden pony classes, the Calwell Cup for champion show hunter pony was presented to Charlotte Kelly, winner of the 153cm class on board Tara Hudson’s traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse mare Hudsons Lucarelli Rosa. A four-year-old by the thoroughbred stallion Lucarelli, the champion is out of Fiona Heslin’s Connemara mare Currabawn Snowcream.
Here, Ella Moran finished reserve on the 133cm class winner, her father Keith’s 15-year-old Scalacre Eclipse (by Rotherwood Peeping Tom). Sophie Cathcart topped the line-up in the 143cm class on Team Torrens’s consistent Rosegate Valentine, a 13-year-old chesnut gelding by Cynhinfa Crackerjack.
The show pony class was won by Jocelyn Hutchinson riding Rotherwood It’s The Business, who is owned by John McCormick and Anthea Steele. Although seven, this daughter of Treworgan Dare To Peep was only broken last year when purchased from well-known judge Alex Spencer.
