NEARLY all the top jockeys were at the Balmoral Show last Saturday morning when Billy Moran and Brian Teat judged the RBC Brewin Dolphin-sponsored mini ridden classes in the P & O Arena.
The final line-up in the lead rein class for show ponies/show hunter ponies was headed by Millie Toomey riding the 13-year-old grey Welsh gelding Rookery Haribo (Uphill James Fox – Rookery Hettie, by Rookery Rupert) for her Co Waterford grandmother Geraldine Power. This pair won the lead rein class at Dublin last August.
In the lead rein class for Mountain and Moorland types, Charlotte Cassidy claimed the honours on the eight-year-old bay gelding Beltoy Panthere (Langfield Patalaimon – Springwater Topaz) who owner Zoe Bell bred at the Beltoy Stud in Co Antrim.
At first ridden level, the show pony/show hunter pony class was won by the Co Antrim mother and daughter duo of Ruth and Amelia Logan with their 13-year-old piebald gelding Fielden Real McCoy (Ninfield Eureka – Oakwood Talilisa, by Firle Running Bear).
The M&M winner was the Co Meath pairing of Neva and Camilla McNamara with the 14-year-old grey Welsh gelding Talgarth Casper (Talgarth Taylor – Talgarth Tia Maria, by Springbourne Herian).
When it came to choosing their mini ridden champion, the judges settled on Rookery Haribo with Talgarth Casper standing reserve.
