THE Irish Pony Society’s annual foal show took place at Tipperary Equestrian Centre on Monday, October 27th where Mairead Ryan was on judging duties. Some 17 ponies came forward for the event, which was an increase on 12 months ago.
The horse classes were first with only one foal forward for the Renelles Stud Intermediate class; that being the beautiful palomino Heartlands Falcon, a full-brother to last year’s winner Heartlands Queen, who was also present to take the yearling class later on. Heartlands Falcon, who is by a Welsh Section B stallion out of a sport horse mare, later took the Horse Supreme title.
The Plaited pony section was strongly supported with Catherine Boylan’s Tyrellspass Cochise taking both the Tyrellspass Stud coloured pony class and the Kilbride Equestrian show hunter class. Claire Lonergan’s Heartlands Dancer was the winner of the Barossa Stud show pony class.
A very strong part-bred class saw Liz Frayling’s scopey chesnut Toorala Rakush get the nod over Tyrellspass Cochise in both the class and the WPCS of Ireland part-bred Championship. A very cute and well-behaved Gathabawn Nugget took the Ballinacarrig mini pony class for owner and breeder Jane Darragh. The Plaited pony section saw Tyrellspass Cochise take the honours in the Championship with Toorala Rakush in reserve.
The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Ireland sponsored the pure-bred section and the winner of the Section B class and champion filly was Claire Lonergan’s Heartlands Magic. Mary Carter’s section A Glynsylen Simply Magic took his class and the pure-bred colt Championship from Claire Lonergan’s strawberry roan Heartlands Chief. However, it was the magical theme that figured in the pure-bred Championship, with Glynsylen Simply Magic getting the nod over Heartlands Magic. The Connemara section again showed colts forward, with Mary Hayden’s Tullowcussane Bud winning his class and the Championship from Hayden’s Tullowcussane Oisin.
The Josephine O’Brien Trophy saw a deserving Tyrellspass Cochise display himself most eloquently for Catherine Boylan to take this home. Liz Frayling’s Toorala Rakush stood a well-deserved supreme reserve champion. The broodmare winner was Liz Frayling’s Waxwing Money Mystery, with Claire Lonergan’s Chantries Amber Nectar in second place.
