BALLYCANEW Riding Club was delighted to host a fantastic cross jump competition at Frankfort Stud, with kind permission of Will Kearney, welcoming riders from various clubs for a fun and competitive day’s sport.
With classes ranging from 60cm to 1m, the event catered for riders of all experience levels and attracted a strong entry. The challenging yet inviting course, combined with excellent ground conditions, provided competitors with an enjoyable day of cross-country style jumping in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The 60cm class was won by Elaine Howlin (Horetown Riding Club) riding Myblessington Lucky Clover, while Ellen Massey (Kilcarrick Riding Club) riding Annaghane Jack claimed victory in the 70cm class.
The 70cm Open class saw home club Ballycanew’s Lorne Deegan riding Woodland Alfie take first place on home soil. Sandra Moran (Barrow Valley Riding Club) riding My Cornett Star finished second, followed by Deirdre Rawson Deegan (Ballycanew Riding Club) riding Dexters Pride in third and Isobelle Gould (Barrow Valley Riding Club) riding Foxy Furisto in fourth.
The 80cm Open class was won by Louise O’Neill riding Derrylackey Emma (Barrow Valley Riding Club).
In the competitive 90cm class, Laura Smartt (Brookelodge Riding Club) on Silver Dubai took the top honours, with Sophie Whitehead (Carne Riding Club) riding Ballyell Ellie finishing second and Emma O’Hagan (Coole-Lane Riding Club) on Derryeighter Smokey in third. The 90cm Open class was won by Lisa Whitehead (Carne Riding Club) riding Miss Lady Candy Star, with clubmate Mary Jo Browne riding Skidsolo taking second place.
The 1m class produced another excellent competition, with Jodie Rossiter (Carne Riding Club) riding Ballinglen PJ Reward taking first place, ahead of Abbey O’Driscoll riding Caroranbeg Coanche (Carne Riding Club) in second, while Andrea Finnegan (Coole-Lane Riding Club) riding Matilda’s Melody secured third. The 1m Open class was won by Ciara Kinsella (Carne Riding Club) riding Doug.
