ST Mary’s New Ross saw off rivals Bridgetown College to claim the red rosettes and 10 league points in the open teams class at the latest TRI Equestrian Interschools in Wexford last weekend. Shamrock Storm ridden by Aoife Cummins, Boughlone Nelson and Eva Kent, Coolafinka Quinn ridden by Laura Neville and Queenies Cornet and Mia Kent comprised the New Ross team. Joe Ryan riding Ted, Gracie and Mollie Bates Doyle, Aoife Murphy on Greenfields Lorenzo and Piece of Art and Lily Walsh represented Bridgetown. Loreto Wexford’s Hannah Rose Roche and Hop, Inch Hill Pippa ridden by Isobelle Walsh, Churchland’s Liberty ridden by Freya Barry and Aoife Griffith riding Sally Grey Gallough took third place. Remaining league points were claimed by Presentation Wexford and Kilkenny College.

Brooke Sutton McGarry from Ramsgrange riding the consistent Achill won both the TRI Equestrian Individual open class and the Premier 110 qualifier. Ellie O’Connor riding Grove Street Lady for Creagh College was second in the metre class and also claimed a qualifier spot in the 110 when placing sixth. Hannah Rose Roche and Hop representing Loreto Wexford was third in the metre league class. Freya Barry, Hannah Hennessy Murphy and Judy Sinnott claimed the remaining league points. In the Premier 110 qualifier, second place went to Alannah Bailey riding Kilpatrick Sparkle for Kilkenny College, while Mia Kent and Queen’s Cornet for St Mary’s New Ross were third. Donnacha Burns and Isabel Smithwick both from Kilkenny were fourth and fifth.

Qualified

Aoife Crean riding Tara Bill for Loreto qualified for the Equieire 90 final when placing first. Rosie ridden by Maria Cullen from Loreto and Freya Fitzgerald with Aille Sinoia Scooby from St Mary’s Arklow were second and third and qualify. Fourth-placed Shannon Griffith is already qualified, as is Mia Delaney in fifth, so Ollie Walsh and Clodagh Murphy gained qualifying spots.

Loreto Wexford won the Hopoti novice teams’ class. Loreto was represented by Izzy Bates on Firefly Kadie, Jumpingdale Peanut and Ruby Cousins, Curraghmore Sparrow ridden by Shannon Griffith and WNDA Toby and Caitlin Griffith. Colaiste Abbain Adamstown represented by Rathduff Ruby and Blake Kavanagh, Jodie Snow ridden by Mia Delaney, Cairnview Kit Kat ridden by Faye Morrisey Ryan and Murphys Boy and Kate Williams were second with Bridgetown College in third. Louis ridden by Annie Scallan, Katie Cadogan on Mossy Boy, Holly Cadogan on Maescrofta Minister and Coolboy Roisin with Kate Gaul rode for Bridgetown.

The EII 75cm league class was won by Cathal Coleman riding Tina for Kiltealy national school, whilst Mary Kate Kelly with Shadow for Loreto Wexford claimed the Hopoti 80cm class.

Wexford Equestrian ran their own league and qualifier classes also and its Aloga 90cm primary qualifier went to Mathew Roche riding Paddington for Kilraine, whilst Lottie Kelly from Blackwater riding Sparkle won the 55cm class and Rathangan National School won the JODZ primary team class.

On the previous bank holiday Monday, Shanakill House Equestrian hosted an enjoyable day of TRI Equestrian Interschools competitions. The open teams’ class was won by Loreto Wexford, with Kilkenny College claiming the runner-up slot and St Mary’s New Ross in third.

Individual class

The TRI Equestrian open individual class was won by Isabel Smithwick from Kilkenny College riding Denode Don’t Forget and the Premier 110 class went to fellow Kilkenny College pupil Gloria Queally riding Longwood Laura. In the novice classes, Mia Donovan riding Jody Snow for St Mary’s New Ross headed the field in the Equieire qualifier class, while Georgia Foley on Monderelo’s Cardinal Dream for Newtown won the novice 80 and a combined team from St Gerard’s Bray and Tullow community school won the novice teams. Last but not least, the primary teams’ competition was won by Newtown and both primary individuals were claimed by Peter Connolly and Highmeade Song and Dance for Castlepark.

Action this weekend moves to Boswell Equestrian, where Mathew Pereira and his team are hosts.
