MULLINGAR Equestrian ran a busy day of show jumping, hosting the TRI Equestrian Interschools league last weekend. The full range of EII classes were on offer, as well as local unregistered jumping, aimed at potential stars of the future, which ranged in height from 50cm to 70cm.

The primary teams class started proceedings in the Aloga International Arena. The team from St Ronan’s Roscommon - Reggie 11 (Ellen Keyes), Silverspring Shortie (Zoe Shaughnessy), Luna an Lu (Millie Keyes) and Kilrickle Bell (Molly Costello) - were first in this class, ahead of teams from Colehill Longford and All Saints.

The EII primary individual league class followed and Caoimhe Murphy riding Summer for Diarmada NS claimed the prize, ahead of siblings Blathnaid and Saoirse. They rode Whitehall’s Orchid and Katie. Thomas Tully, Téadóir O’Callaghan and Lucy Anne Rogers claimed the remaining league points.

This was followed by the TRI Equestrian open teams class, in which Mercy Ballymahon claimed the top league points and the red rosettes, ahead of Kilkenny College in second and third. Another team from Mercy Ballymahon was fourth. A mixed team from Loreto College and St Finian’s took fifth.

April Shadow (Calum Duignan), Tuam Star (Neasa Donohue), Lockside Celtic Queen (Emily Hall) and Wyndorm Mr Blue (Ella Duignan) made up the winning Ballymahon team. Kilkenny was represented by Glenrock Lisa (Gloria Queally), Carraun Ferdy (Georgia Queally) and Tynagh Sunshine (Ava O’Neill) taking second and North Star (Rachel McMonigle), Matilda 11 (Taylor Grace Nolan Gee) and Carlton Donna (Cherry Honner) also representing Kilkenny taking third.

The St Ronan's Roscommon team of Reggie 11 (Ellen Keyes), Silverspring Shortie (Zoe Shaughnessy), Luna an Lu (Millie Keyes) and Kilrickle Bell (Molly Costello)won the Primary Schools Teams class at Mullingar \ Laurence Dunne jumpinaction.net

Hot contest

The TRI open individual class was hotly contested and victory went to Taylor Grace Nolan Gee riding Ramino Van Het Overlode for Kilkenny College, with Ella Hughes in second for High Cross College riding The Enterprise and Donnacha Burns on Coppenagh Viking also for Kilkenny in third. Tom O’Donnell, Lilly Knapp McMahon and Claudia O’Neill were fourth, fifth and sixth.

The final class in this arena was the TRI Equestrian premier 1.10m class. Calum Duignan on Express Graviel from Mercy Ballymahon School qualified, as did Donnacha Burns on Youghal, Lockside Queen and Emily Hall, Ava O’Neill and Flashdance, Willow Gavin and Lantino 31 and Fionn O’Donnell and Benji when being placed first to sixth.

The Plusvital Sand 2 arena played host to the Hopoti novice teams league. St Gerard’s Bray - Ballyea Star (Kate Buckley), Blakehill Bobby (Dahlia Durkan), Fiveally Popeye (Saoirse Di Biasi) and Cluainin Johnson Grey (Isabella Bibiasi) took the red rosettes, ahead of Ballymore Lad (Lily Tully), Elizabeths Girl (Katie Tully), Maghera Melody (Shannon O’Rourke) and Clear Water (Layla Kelly), who made up a mixed team from Carrigallen VC and Royal School Cavan. Ursuline Secondary School Thurles - Kilminchy Feisty (Iris Corcoran), High Thyme Vanity Fair (Alex Vambeck) and Kinnegad Flicka (Zoe Vambeck) were third. St Paul’s Monasterevin and Kildare Town CS, Meanscoil Longford and Mercy Ballymahon were fourth, fifth and sixth.

First place in the Hopoti novice individual class went to Kinnegad Flicka, ridden by Zoe Zambeck for Ursuline Thurles, with Jack Hargaden from Newbridge College on Rio in second and Alexandra Zambeck on Highthyme Vanity Fair in third. The local individual classes followed and were enjoyed by all.

Action this weekend, October 19th, will be in Barnadown EC for the next leg of the TRI Equestrian Interschools league with Cóláiste Bhríde, Carnew being the hosts.
