THE AIRC Southeast Spring Series returned from its couple-week break, this time returning to the home grounds of Tinahely Riding Club in Coolboy, Co Wicklow. This week’s show jumping was co-hosted by Tinahely and Coole Lane Riding Clubs.
Under the springtime sun and over a course set by Felim O’Dowd, Patrick Deegan from Ballycanew on Last Masterpiece was the pacemaker for the day, with a double clear round in the Newcomers class.
The next class was the RC70 Graded class. Josephine Britton of Warrington Riding Club was the winner here on Mikey Joe.
The 70cm open was a hostly-contested class, but it was Ballycanew Riding Club once again on the top of the podium, with Deirdre Deegan and Dexters Pride, coming ahead of Josephine Britton on Mikey Joe from Warrington Riding Club with newcomer to riding club, Chloe Stedman on Beauty from Kilcarrick rounding off the top three places.
The course was once again adjusted to 80cm, with the graded class up first. It was Aoife Murphy from Horetown on Sailors Hill, who came away with the red rosette. Chloe Stedman was once again on the podium, this time taking a blue rosette and Tony Behan on Cappard Brownie from Coole Lane took the yellow rosette.
The RC80 open class was next to take on the challenging course set. Coole Lane was once again on top, with Casey Cushe on Penure Fred, while Valerie Crean and Kildoon Trix from Barrow Valley came in second place, with JJ Bolger on Zoe from Thomastown and District Riding Club taking third.
The latter half of the day saw riders testing their speed and accuracy, as they jumped off against the clock.
The first to take on the speed challenge was the RC90 Graded class, where Ciara Shannon from Coole Lane on Oddsocks produced an unbeatable round, ahead of her fellow club mates, Chloe Rice on Lady Cassandra in second and Emily Slaven on Lugnaquilla Lux in third.
In the RC90cm open class, JJ Bolger of Thomastown and District proved hard to beat, taking the top spot on his mount Beth and third place on Zoe, while Brian Cushe of Coole Lane on Boris slottted into second.
The final class of the day saw the course adjusted one final time for the 100cm Graded class. It was Leonard Ramsbottom from Coole Lane on his regular mount Lightening Spirit, who produced the winning round, ahead of runners-up Christina Kavanagh of Carne on Russelstown Nightshade. It was Ballycanew Riding Club back on the podium for the final time with Joan Sinnott and Newtown Wilson placing third.
