THERE were two TRI Equestrian Interschools events in different parts of the country last weekend.
Wexford Equestrian Centre hosted a great day of show jumping, with lots of local schools, as well as schools from further afield represented.
The TRI Equestrian Open teams league competition was claimed by local school Loreto Wexford: Ruby Cousins (Sally Grey Gallough), Freya Barry (GPS New Moon Rising), Hazel Slattery (Clyde) and Judy Sinnott (Andreas Dream), who saw off rivals East Glendalough School, represented by the three-person team of Kimmy McCall (BBS En Vogue), Louisa Smith (Hoypark Dan the Man) and Laura Bentley (Diamond Frederick) to claim first place. The Gorey Community School team of Joe Kehoe (Head Honcho), Eoghan Murphy (Killycloghan Madan Tara), Abbie Hill (Jacobs Ladder) and Cathal Murphy (Caraselle De Reve) placed third. A mixed team from Carnew and Avondale Community School made up of Grace Shannon (Lookout Bandit Vision), Alison Byrne (Lake Geneva) and Laura Byrne (Corporal Cora) was fourth.
Forget Me Not
The TRI Equestrian 1m Open Individual league class went to Amelia Henly from Wesley College riding Kilpatrick Forget Me Not, with Lexi Brennan and Maxi from Presentation Kilkenny in second and Kimmy McCall from East Glendalough riding BBS En Vogue in third. The remaining league points on offer went to Kate Kavanagh, Ruby Reville and Louisa Smith.
The TRI Equestrian Premier 110 class was hotly contested and Ciara Sarsfield riding Tempest Glenville from Presentation Wexford saw off all rivals to take the win from the Open Individual winner Amelia Henly and Kilpatrick Forget Me Not in second and Ramsgrange’s Brooke Sutton McGarry and Achille in third. Remaining qualifier places were claimed by Annie Gamble ridden by Niamh Colfer from Ramsgrange and Kilcloghan Madam ridden by Eoghan Murphy from Gorey CS.
Represented
Loreto Wexford also claimed the EII novice teams’ class, posting a time that was only seconds ahead of Bridgetown College in second. Loreto was represented by Mary Kate Kelly (Ballyfarnough Boy), Emily Mai Purcell (Outlier), Aoife Robinson (Cotts Polly) and Lily Kelly (Shorty Boy), while the team from Bridgetown was Katie Cadogan (Mossy Boy), Cora Goff (Westside Mirah Bob), Rosie Scallan (Louie Arthur) and Kate Gallagher (Joey Bailey). Bridgetown’s other team was third. Presentation Wexford and Presentation Kilkenny also gained novice team points.
The Equieire novice 90cm qualifier was, as usual, very competitive and it was Lucy Day from Presentation Wexford riding Kilkisheen Girl, who claimed the red ribbon and the first qualifier place on offer. Yulia Di Nardi Maher and Trendy Bella from Ardscoil na Trionoide was second and Donnacha Cousins riding Roses Lane from CBS Wexford was third. Remaining qualifier spots went to Lily Kelly, Lucy O’Brien and Hannah Kavanagh.
Daisy, ridden by Robyn Murphy from Rathangan NS, claimed the EII 75cm league class. Frankie Rath and Catch Me Now from Screen was second and Rhys O’Brien on Clondaw Misty from Blackwater NS was third.
The fun primary teams’ class (part of Wexford’s own league) was won by local school Kilmore NS, whilst the novice 80 class, open to both second level novice riders and primary school riders, was won by Westside Mirah Bob and Cora Goff from Bridgetown College. Finally, a delighted Mia Wall riding Silverspring Harry for Blackwater NS won the 55cm class.
