THE AIRC South East Spring Series was back again for another week, but this time it was show jumping with Ballycanew Riding Club as the hosts in Butterfly Farm Equestrian Centre.

Under the spring sunshine, the pathfinder was Claire Sheehan on Gortnalee Bonnie from the host club, who delivered the first clear round of the day to take home the red rosette in the RC70 Graded class.

The RC70 Open class was next to take on the tough course set by Felim O’Dowd. It was a one-two for neighbouring club Coole Lane Riding Club, with Sarah Butler on Misty Morning Dew taking top spot edging Tony Behan on Lady Arya into second place. Lorne Deegan from the home club on Woodlawn Alfie slid into third position.

The RC80 Graded class also saw another one-two from Coole Lane Riding Club, with Tony Behan on Cappard Brownie finding himself once again in the blue ribbon spot, behind Roisin McBride on Ballyconran Girl. Roisin Sutton of Carne Riding Club on Broomhill Bailey finished out the podium.

Kelsea Morris on Dorito from Carne Riding Club took the honours in the RC80 Open class, ahead of Casey Cushe on Penure Fred from Coole Lane Riding Club. Patrick Byrne on Macimor R from Barrow Valley walked away with the yellow rosette.

Coole Lane Riding Club was back in winning ways with Emily Slaven on Lugnaquilla Lux proving to be the fastest clear of the RC90 Graded class, just ahead of John Kearney on Hot Jameson from Warrington Riding Club in second place and Caoimhe Curran on Clonfin Lolalicious of Barrow Valley taking third position.

Winning ways did not stop for Coole Lane, with Brian Cushe on Boris just pipping Lisa Whitehead on Miss Lady Candy Star into second place in the RC90 Open class.

The penultimate class of the day, RC100 Graded class saw Christina Kavanagh of Carne on Russelstown Nightshade proving to be too quick for Coole Lane’s Andrea Finnegan on Matilda’s Melody in second. The home club Ballycanew were back in the ribbons once again with Joan Sinnott on Newtown Wilson.

Andrea Finnegan was the final rider on the course in the RC100 Open class, taking home the final red rosette of the day.

The AIRC South East Spring Series is almost at its halfway point, with the next leg being hosted by Carne Riding Club in Barnadown Showjumping.
