THERE were a wide variety of themed-displays in The Irish Field Musical Ride class, ranging from ‘Flashdance’ (Clonshire Riding Club), ‘Eighties Dance Music’ (Rathfarnham Riding Club) to ‘The Artemis Mission to the Moon’ (Lakelands Riding Club).
However, it was the topically-themed ‘The Fuel Crisis’ display from Earl’s Well Riding Club that caught the eye of judges Máirín Cassidy and Louise O’Brien in a sunny Aloga international sand arena at Mullingar Equestrian Centre, in front of a large number of spectators on the Saturday evening of the festival.
The team of six from the Ballinhassig, Co Cork-based club of Bichris Coupama (Shelly May), Cora Steemers (CW Woodford), Eva Osojca Mikuta (Ringabella Reel), Fiona Fitton (Ifes Limited Edition), Kate Nic A Bhaird (Banagher Big Flash) and Kate O’Shea (Send Me On) proved to be the clear winners on a team total of 115 points, ahead of Lakelands Riding Club in second place on 93 points and Clonshire Riding Club in third on 83 points.
Ashbrook Riding Club’s Anne O’Dowd and the 19-year-old Inocent gelding Until Proven Guilty won The Irish Field Veteran Horse class on a 75.58% total.
Owen Smyth and D-Sign were awarded a winning total of 72.88% by judge Alison Thorne to claim top spot for Twinfort Riding Club in The Irish Field Senior Riders’ class.
Avoiding the heavy showers and chilly wind on Sunday afternoon, The Irish Field Fancy Dress Pairs decider took place in the indoor arena at Mullingar Equestrian with the pairing of Lauren Doyle (Mac Attack) [Kilcarrick Riding Club] and Rebekah Doyle Hughes (Jet Black Eddie) [Castledermot Riding Club] coming out on top.
