EDITION 9 of The Breeders Select Foal Sale Ireland marks another milestone for what has become one of Ireland’s most respected breeder-led sport horse sales. Since the inaugural sale in 2018, the Mayo Roscommon Breeders Group (MRB) has worked collectively to improve the quality, athleticism and commercial appeal of Irish Sport Horse foals. Through a rigorous selection process, breeder education, performance pedigree analysis and continual market feedback, breeders have successfully adapted their breeding programmes to meet the evolving demands of both the international marketplace and the sport.

What began as an ambitious vision has evolved into a recognised source of pre-selected show jumping and eventing foals. The sale has developed a reputation for presenting buyers with carefully-selected young stock possessing athletic biomechanics, proven dam lines and pedigrees aligned with modern sport horse requirements.

The success of previously selected foals, many of whom have progressed to major national and international events, young horse classes and sport careers, demonstrates the effectiveness of the Group’s breeding philosophy.

The Breeders Select Foal Sale 2026 will see 79 foals presented by vendors on Saturday, September 26th. All foals are now available for viewing online via The Irish Horse Centre’s auction platform (www.ihc.auction), which will accommodate live bidding and streaming.

To promote event horse breeding, Horse Sport Ireland, through Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine funding under Breeding Grant Initiatives, has allocated €4,000 for breeders of event-bred foals presented at Edition 9. This represents yet another initiative by the Mayo Roscommon Breeders (MRB) Group aimed at rewarding breeders for their breeding endeavours, while simultaneously responding to market demand.

Accredited Breeders

The MRB Group continues to invest in the future of Irish sport horse breeding by supporting education, opportunity and breeder development within the industry. Through the Warmblood Studbook of Ireland Accredited Breeder Programme, a number of Edition 9 breeders have already achieved Accredited Breeder status, demonstrating their commitment to the highest standards of breeding, production and welfare.

By combining performance-based selection criteria, international marketing initiatives, online bidding technology, contract-rearing opportunities and ongoing breeder support programmes, the Group is creating clear pathways for breeders to develop and promote their stock.
