THE Northern Region’s new mobile office accommodation for secretary Dora Beacom had a stormy introduction to eventing last Saturday at Tyrella where the wind and rain never ceased all day.

The unit is supported by Lightsource Renewable Energy whose founder and chief executive, Nick Boyle, can often be heard commentating on one-day events in the region. Not so on Saturday however, as with daughter Ella having to withdraw both her horses, Nick was quickly away to a drier venue once the unit was launched.

“We are delighted with the new HQ facility,” commented regional vice chairman, Heather Graham. “This will enable our secretary, Dora Beacom, to work in comfort throughout long event days and the Northern Region committee are indebted to Nick Boyle for his support with this project.”

Unfortunately, the unit was less than pristine at day’s end with the floor caked in mud.

Around the secretary’s office, the scorers’ mobile unit and the hospitality marquee, the ground was soon a bit of a quagmire so cross-country fence designer/builder Adam Stevenson and his team were called in to put builders’ sand in the worst spots.

At least no further damage was done in this area by machinery with the ‘enclosure’ in situ until after Tyrella (4) on April 23rd.

One hardy cross-country fence steward did her job without the aid of cover for the six-hour stint while those in jeeps and cars were rocking in the wind.

So too were commentators Peter Quirke and Paul Nolan and all others in the control unit which, naturally enough, was in an exposed position.

They were grateful for the new, well-sealed windows.
