UK side-saddle race looming

THERE’s only two weeks left to help support the three Irish ladies taking part in Britain’s first ever side-saddle race at a racecourse.

Susan Oakes from Co Meath, Clare Gundry (nee McMahon) from Lambertstown and Carlow veterinary surgeon Aoife Byrne will be donning silks for the one-mile two-furlong inaugural “Side Saddle Dash” to be held at Wincanton racecourse on Sunday, October 25th in aid of the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust in the UK. It’s the first event of its kind and will take place on the flat. The race has been organised by Britain’s Philippa Holland, who is behind the Dianas of the Chase Cup, a side-saddle race over jumps across hunting country.
