T.K. LAIDLAW, racehorse owner, steward and member of the Turf Club, who died recently (see obituary The Irish Field, December 13th 2014) also had a strong connection with the RDS.

He was the eldest grandson of The Right Honourable T.K. Laidlaw and the Laidlaw Cup (which is awarded every year at the Dublin Horse Show to the overall Champion Young Horse) was given by the RDS in memory of The Right Honourable T.K. Laidlaw, who had been a great benefactor to the RDS and who was the driving force behind the building of the Anglesey Stand.

The Right Honourable T.K. Laidlaw loved all aspects of horse sport and he built a mirror image of the Ballsbridge show jumping ring at his home Abbey Lodge, complete with double bank, hedges and two stone walls. In recent times the Laidlaw family has continued to support the Laidlaw Cup with sponsorship.
