AS event rider Felicity Ward continues to recover from the injuries sustained in a fall at Millstreet early last month, she had the pleasure of seeing her five-year-olds Blarney Acacia and EPA Murray finish first and second in the EI90 at Glenpatrick last Saturday.

They were ridden by the owner’s sister Antonia who took over the ride on the pair and the seven-year-old Regal Bounty. “It was great that Antonia could take all three and she is doing a great job with them – especially on the flat,” said Felicity.

“I have four fractures in my pelvis and damage to the ligaments and muscles but my recovery is going well and the doctors and physios are delighted with my progress. I hope to be back in the saddle competitively for Kiguilkey International where I’m told they are going to have a four and five-year-old class which will be the target of both Blarney Acacia and EPA Murray. At the beginning of the year, I had hoped to ride Regal Bounty in the six and seven-year-old class at Tatts but now I just hope to be there for a day! Antonia is jumping at the international at Mullingar so I will have to go there was well.”

Felicity returned home to Kanturk over 18 months ago and is building facilities at her own yard while being much appreciative of local racehorse trainers who allow her use their gallops and swimming pools.

“I have had terrific support from my parents, Chris and Fred, the Munster Region’s groom of the year Abbie Lucey, Michelle Marshall and William O’Hanlon. Between them and Antonia, they have kept the show on the road and I’m very grateful for all their help. It has been a great team effort.”
