THE Farney Harriers, a small cross-border pack established in 2009 and which hunts every Sunday, held their hunt ball recently at the Flagstaff Lodge in Newry.

Among the 160 who attended the ball were the three joint-masters – Lisa Cumiskey, Anthony Linanne and Thomas McCreesh – huntsman Lloyd Parr and whipper-in Adam Finnegan. Brian Cosgrove was on hand to present Lauryn Finnegan with the Mary Cosgrove memorial award for dedication to the hunt, while, in the presence of his family, young Daniel Cullen received the award for best junior rider.

Among the items auctioned on the night were a week’s training for a horse with renowned Ballygowan producer Emma Jackson, a pallet of shavings, a day’s hunting next season with the Bray Harriers or Wicklow Foxhounds (including horse hire and cap) and a pair of Dubarry boots.

The Farneys are holding their annual end-of-season drag hunt tomorrow from Greenvale Livery. All visitors are welcome by arrangement and there will be a hot toddy and food on return to the Forkhill yard.
