AMONG those who supported the ‘Wear Green for Jonty’ campaign at Glaslough last Saturday was the rider’s good friend James O’Haire who did more than his fair share for the cause.
“I must have lost about two stone!” said the Hawthorn Farm rider. “I forgot the green tee-shirt I was going to use and the only thing I had to wear in the truck was a dark green waterproof top. I can tell you it was tough going riding three horses cross-country in that jacket and in that heat – Jonty is going to have to buy me a lot of ice cream when he returns!”
O’Haire wasn’t the only one of his team to ‘Wear green for Jonty’ as Patricia Heffernan, owner of the Womanizer mare HFS Eclipse on whom O’Haire finished second in the novice class, wore a shirt of that hue.
CRUTCHES RACE
We didn’t notice if Tullymurry’s Elaine O’Connor was wearing green at Glaslough on Saturday but we do know that she is very adept at crossing any country on crutches as she recovers from the bad leg break she suffered in a fall at home.
What we did notice was that Elaine was in the company of her Downpatrick neighbour Aisling Devine whose six-year-old Steppe Dancer mare, Dancing Queen, finished 14th of 20 in the CNC1* where she made her novice debut under Elaine’s husband David. Aisling too was on crutches but her broken leg was the result of a fall out clubbing!
