THE Ormond Hunt hosted a special lawn meet at Southpark, the home of Morgan and Mary Cahalan, in Ballingarry, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, on Saturday morning. Almost 100 people turned up to honour 95-year-old Mabel Wallace, who has been a member of the Ormonds since (at least) 1926.

‘Mabel’s Meet’ was organised by Jessica Cahalan, following discovery of a photograph from 1926 which shows Mabel out with the Ormonds, mounted on a donkey.

On Saturday, hunt chairman John Kenny presented Mabel with a hound (Ormond Treacle ’16) and a portrait of the hound to take home. The guest of honour had no trouble taking the microphone and thanking all who had turned out for this “very special day”. Among those is attendance was Myra Mooney, whose father Jack is leading Mabel in that 1926 photograph. Mabel’s own father, Harry Kenny, rode three Dublin Horse Show champions and was an accomplished amateur rider.
