EVERYONE knows the value of having bred, owned or produced an RDS winner and one lucky Co Meath breeder in that position is Joey Madden from Ratoath.
His eye-catching mare Flemingtown Ruby shone to win the five-year-old event horse class at the RDS, partnered by Nicola Ennis who broke the filly in and steadily produced her.
“When she won in the RDS, I could not believe it really. She’s a very quiet type, it was her first time in such a big busy place and leading her around before, she was so quiet, taking it all in but she’s the type that comes alive in the ring. Nicola was delighted with her and (world class event rider) Lucinda Green told us she was very impressed with her, which was great for us to hear,” said Joey.
Madden’s journey started when he took four thoroughbred mares up to Cavan’s Maria Morgan to breed and three went in foal, including Flemingtown Ruby’s dam to Golden Major Magic.
“Nicola broke her and then we turned her out. We did not event her as a four-year-old but did a bit with her. She’s a very pretty mare, very easy to work with. In June we brought her to Tattersalls and she was fifth in her class.
“There was interest in her but we decided to take her on to Dublin anyway and then she won at the RDS so we are very glad we did!,” added Joey.
With plenty of interest in this talented mare, she’s entered in Goresbridge’s flagship Go For Gold sale and is currently enjoying the green grass of home.
