YOUNG English rider Alice Homer, who featured in this publication in early April when recording her first point-to-point success on the Irish-bred Agamemmon, a Getaway gelding owned and trained by her grandfather David Tatlow, posted some excellent results at last week’s Royal Windsor Horse Show on four Irish-bred horses.

On Thursday, the 19-year-old won the heavyweight working hunter and was reserve champion on her mother Lorraine’s Little Joe (by KEC Maximum Joe) who was bred in Co Wicklow by Michael Byrne. On Friday, she won the four-year-old hunter class on Bloomfield President, was third in the novice hack on Lorraine’s Ballinclare and was fourth in the novice working hunter on Bloomfield Distinction.

The last-named, who was also third in the four-year-old hunter class under Olivia Minihane, is, like the winner, owned by Daphne Tierney and only ended up in England when their producer, and usual rider, Jane Bradbury broke her collarbone at the end of April.

“We just wanted to get some mileage into them and the plan is for them to come back here for Balmoral,” said Jane. “Both were having their third outings under saddle at Royal Windsor but had done a good bit in-hand here.

“Distinction (OBOS Quality 004), bred by Jim Seymour, was the 2019 Red Mills all-Ireland two-year-old champion. President (Emperor Augustus), bred by Daphne, is the last foal out of her good mare Bloomfield Rebekah. He was shown in-hand for us by Michael Lyons and won his two-year-old lightweight class in Dublin going to on to be traditional champion and reserve champion in the Pembroke cup (for owner/bred horses). I bred Ballinclare myself. She’s a five-year-old by Silvano out of Katoda, an unraced thoroughbred mare by Indian Danehill.”
