INNOVATION is certainly not lacking in the Laois home of Helena Kirwan Emerson who came up with her own pony activity book to teach and amuse children while learning about ponies.

“I have four young children and could not find a child friendly book about ponies for them so together we made one. It is like a pony camp in a book. We launched our Facebook page in May (facebook.com/bellaandbobbook/).

“The book is an interactive workbook, A5 in size and wire bound so it lies flat when doing any of the 13 activity pages. The book is 80 pages long. It is fully illustrated by a Kildare company Doodle Moose and printed in Offaly so it is 100% Irish.

The language is simple with illustrations beside each explanation and then an activity (wordsearches, colouring, crosswords, matching) to reinforce learning and a rosette to cut out and glue into the book at the end of each chapter. I have got great feedback from children and adults alike,’’ Helena reported.
