A HUGELY successful “Cheval for Stella’’ was held in Bandon last Sunday. The event was held to support Stella McGrath while she recovers from a serious riding injury.

Stella, is a hugely popular young woman on the Cork and Waterford point-to-point circuits and is making great progress in her recovery with the support of her mother Jackie and her wider family in west Cork.

The Chevals are unique to west Cork and were started many years ago in memory of a farrier from Bantry, Denny Sexton.

Denny used the French word for horse and the word sticks to this day for the club’s name.

Chairman of West Cork Chevals, Pat O’Driscoll, Bantry, says that in 2016 they raised €29,500 for charity. There are 18 Chevals on the calendar for 2017.
