THE 79th annual Royal Meath Show will take place in Trim, Co. Meath on Sunday, September 1st. This year sees some changes in the horse section, and with the Royal Meath Show being some of the last shows of the season, it could very well be your lucky day or a good start to make sure the hunters are season ready.

There is a large variety of classes available and entries are flying in so please go online and see the full list. Some of the highlights include classes for Connemara Ponies, young horses, rescue horses, retired racehorses, and ridden hunter classes. The ever popular classes for younger riders include lead rein, first ridden, and show classes are all on the schedule. The highlight is the Fancy Dress class.

Always a big attraction, the working hunter pony and horse classes are on the schedule as are the ridden hunter classes, with €500 on offer for the champion in these classes. With Meath having a strong hunting background, these classes are always very well supported and a great spectacle.

There will be displays of donkeys, side saddle riders, miniature horse, and rescue classes. Always a popular group are the racehorses that are being retrained for new disciplines.

In addition, there will be a field packed with cattle, sheep, goats, home industries, craft displays, trade stands and much more. Entertainment will feature live music with Eimear Furlong, Eddie Quinn and John Hogan. Chef Adrian Martin will be doing cookery demonstrations throughout the day. Don’t forget to bring the dog as there’s a class for them.
