THANKFULLY Pony Tales does not often get things wrong but last week we broke that good record!

Many apologies to Lucy McCarthy, the new (and correct!) owner of the purpose built Greenogue Equestrian Centre at Tay Lane, Newcastle, at the Rathcoole junction on the N7.

Lucy and her father Con are the proud owners of the brand new state-of-the-art facility, which aims to provide the Irish sport horse sector with top-class facilities for show jumping, dressage and eventing as well as pleasure riders and owners.

With 55 fine boxes for either long or short-term livery, the centre also has a beautiful indoor arena (25mx50m) as well as an outdoor arena (40m x 80m) with a top quality surface and a 10,000 sq. m. all-weather derby schooling course – one of the finest in Ireland.

The course is designed to suit all ages and all levels, with both permanent and mobile jumps. There is also an eight-horse walker, a lunging ring, individual turn-out paddocks, and extensive concreted parking facilities which all make Greenogue Equestrian a hugely valuable asset in the Irish horse world.

Greenogue Equestrian is jointly managed by Lucy and Sheena Boran, who has years of experience in competing, managing, and teaching, having previously run Castlewarden Horse and Country Club where many young people got their first taste and love for horse riding.

Lucy, who also competes and aims to produce top-class event horses, is responsible for the overall running of the business and the commercial side. Greenogue Equestrian is also available for schooling and for hire for shows and events. To date, some very successful clinics and lessons have been held there by some of Ireland’s most talented equestrian riders and coaches including top international event rider Joseph Murphy, international show jumper and coach Jack Doyle, while top dressage riders Sandra Blake and rising star Kevin Acres are based at Greenogue.

Upcoming events including shows by Dressage Ireland, the Show of the East on April 6th next; a talk by sports psychologist Jim Hickey and a minature horse show among others.

All the information you need about what’s happening can be found on Facebook at Greenogue Equestrian while Lucy McCarthy can be contacted on 083 8120301.
