WITH a bit more time on her hands, The Irish Field contributor Emer Bermingham, with the help of the O’Donnell family, is back in the saddle.

Emer, who has not ridden in the last 10 years, dusted off her riding gear last week to join her daughter Georgia on her loyal pony Diamond for a hack in the Donard forests.

Emer’s new mount, Jack, also has a special place in the Donnell family’s heart. He is owned by Paddy O’Donnell Snr and was bred by Paddy’s late mum Gay. Before he was retired, he was shown as a hunter by Paddy Snr with much success.

“It’s great to be back in the saddle and I am so appreciative to Paddy who has trusted me with such a special horse. I must say I was a bit nervous, so much so that I have dusted off my old HIT Air vest. He is a real gentleman of a horse and Georgia and I have many plans ahead once the restrictions lift. Diamond now has a new friend to keep him company,” Emer said.
