LT David Power is feeling “all good” after a crashing fall during the third round of the Land Rover Puissance at the Dublin Horse Show last Saturday evening, despite breaking two back teeth.

Riding the Minister For Defence’s Rolestown, the combination cleared the wall in the third round, only for the stallion to stumble and cause Lt Power to fall out over his head, and on landing he felt the full force of the horses hoof on his right cheek.

However, the officer fell off just after the finishing beam and, with some encouragement from the crowd and MC Brendan McArdle, the judges cleared the pair to come back for the fourth round when the wall measured 6ft 9in.

“I broke two teeth but that was the height of it now and I’m feeling 100%,” Lt Power told The Irish Field, while cooling off a horse at the Army Equitation School on Wednesday morning. “I had a scan that evening but it’s all good.”

He also reported that Rolestown was back to normal following the mishap. The 11-year-old stallion galloped towards the pocket area after the fall, causing his bridle and martingale to break in the process.

“He is 100%. I was a little disappointed that he fell to be honest. He had been very brave up to that and was jumping it quite well. He probably wasn’t as confident after but he is back to normal now,” Lt Power said.
