AMONG those from the sport horse world at the Killinick Harriers’ point-to-point in sunny Lingstown on Sunday was local event rider Louise Codd who was on duty as a fence steward.

One-time regular point-to-point follower, Horse Sport Ireland chief executive Damian McDonald watched the first couple of races in the company of his father, well-known breeder Albert. The pair then headed off to support Crossabeg-Ballymurn in their semi-final of the club junior hurling championships in Enniscorthy; sadly they might have been better off staying at Lingstown.

Based just up the road at Wexford Equestrian, it wasn’t too surprising to see Patrick Whelan among the large crowd at the point-to-point, where Jason Higgins’s reputation as a tipster plummeted after the first race!

Ashleigh Murphy, whose Wexford Pimpernel won the over 13st working hunter class at the RDS in August, sent out husband Michael’s Mighty Vic to land the older horses’ maiden while also saddling runners at the meeting were Sneezy Foster and Dot Love.
