FANCY a complete change of scene and mindset for yourself and your horse?

Shake off those arena blues and head out to the wilds of Connemara and you just might find that it not only clears your head but does wonders for your equine friend as well.

Connemara Equestrian Escapes, run by Cathriona Goaley, is fast building a name for itself, offering guided scenic rides amid some of Ireland’s most stunning coastal scenery.

Many Irish riders – many of them from various riding clubs - along with international tourists have enjoyed the spectacular coastal rides.

“So many people who brought their own horses down for a day or two reported back to me how much easier the horses were in their minds afterwards. It seems that the break and complete change of scenery does them just as much good as their riders,’’ said Cathriona.

This weekend, Cathriona, who has been riding Connemara ponies since the age of four and breeding them for over 20 years, is hosting a residential Adult Horse Camp this weekend, offering riders clinics on show jumping, dressage and cross-country today (Saturday) and tomorrow.

There’s been great reaction with riders bringing their own mounts while others will be mounted on Cathriona’s sturdy ponies.

“I have very good trainers including dressage tutor Mary Mitchell while Kay Nolan is covering the cross-country clinic and Helen Nolan is coaching the show jumping clinic.

“Lessons will be conducted in small groups, approximately five riders in each,’’ said Cathriona. Riders have the options of coming for either day’s clinics or staying overnight in the luxury farmhouse or they can avail of a camping option if preferred with all food provided.

“We will be hosting further clinics based on demand so watch this space as they say,’’ said Cathriona. Prices range from €35 per clinic up to €250 all inclusive for the residential weekend which also includes stabling and feed for visiting horses. Telephone: 0876445589
