JOHN Watson and Jim Cooke, honorary treasurer of the Traditional Irish Horse Association (TIHA), presented a rosette and cheque at Gorey show to Enniscorthy’s Oliver Walsh of Enniscorthy in recognition of his breeding the good event horse Prince Mayo.

Prince Mayo, the traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horse winner of The Irish Field CCI*** at Tattersalls International Horse Trials recently, under Australian Paul Tapner, is by Bonnie Prince (TB) out of Crosshue Lass (TIH) by Colourfield (TB).

The TIHA recently pledged a fund to recognise breeders of Traditional Irish Horse (TIH) winners in 2016 of international three-star CCI events and international show jumping Grand Prix.

Speaking at Gorey show, Jim Cooke said: “Even though TIHA has limited funds and relies on dedicated volunteers to get the work done, this is one idea where the more often we pay out the happier we will be.”

Tapner and Prince Mayo, who were initially in third place at Tattersalls after dressage, moved up to second after cross-country when going clear over Ian Stark’s challenging course.

They gave an exhibition of jumping in the main arena, to win the prestigious class on their dressage score of 44.80.
