THE first leg of the Kavanagh’s of Newbridge autumn dressage league in the west Leinster region of riding clubs, took place last Sunday, hosted by Winterdown riding club at Kildare EC in Rathmore.

Riders competed in six different classes on the day which were judged by Jean Halpenny and Eithne O’Kelly.

Olga Levis from host club Winterdown was the winner of the primary class with her grey mare Winterdown Ruby on a score of 69.5%. Second place went to Ceara Banner from Abbeylands riding Homer who scored 68.5%.

In the advanced primary class, Linda O’Byrne and her grey mare Irco Belle took a win for Killcarrick with a score of 70%, ahead of Julie O’Callaghan and Poulboy Hidalgo from Greenhills who scored 66.84%.

The sportsmans class saw victory going to Grainne Alexander from Greenhills with a winning score of 69.21% on her first outing with her grey Connemara pony Dusty Of Lishmar.

Michelle Byrne from Calliaghstown took second and third place with Ella and Saoirshe.

In the intermediate class, Sorcha O’Loughlin from Phoenix produced the highest score of the day (72.5%) with Cocoa And Cream, with Fionnuala O’Connor from Greenhills finishing second for Greenhills scoring 68.75%.

UPGRADED

Lianne O’Shea from Greenhills recently upgraded to advanced intermediate in dressage and had a very successful first outing with her chesnut gelding Bento Van De Noordheuvel, taking first place with a score of 72.10%. Fiona Doggett from Cill Dara, another combination new to this grade, took second place aboard Jasmine scoring 69.84%.

Lisa Doran from Calliaghstown and Ringwood Spongebob took first place in the open class with a score of 71.41%, while Jennie Curran and Landanos Rolling Clover from Killcarrick took second place, finishing on 68.91%.

The league will continue on September 20th at Cill Dara riding club in Redhills Stud, Co Kildare.
