THE Netherlands topped the medal table for the first time following the final day of action last Sunday at the FEI Para-equestrian dressage European championships in Deauville, while Irish riders scored three top-10 finishes at the French venue.

Kelly Horan recored Ireland’s best result, coming home in sixth place in the freestyle test 11 aboard her horse Arlande on a score of 68.50. Dutch rider Rixt Van Der Horst and Uniek Nop took the gold medal with their score of 79.00.

Helen Kearney finished seventh in the individual championship 1A with Rock And Roll 2 on a score of 70.174. The gold medal went to British rider Sophie Christiansen aboard Athene Lindebjerg scoring 79.565.

Kathryn Gallagher added a 10th place finish in the individual championship IV with Waragon when scoring 64.762, while Dutch rider Frank Hosmar took top spot on the podium with Alphaville Nop on a score of 73.524.

Seventy-five athletes from 20 nations competed at the championships, with 14 countries entering teams – three more than in 2013.

The Netherlands topped the 2015 medal table in Deauville with four gold, one silver and four bronze medals, to Britain’s three gold and eight silver.
