Irish aim for Presidents Cup

STUDENT riders were also in action last week with the Irish team of Melanie Young, Sarah Dowley and Brian Morrison taking part in the AIEC Student Riding Nations Cup (SRNC) in Hook, England.

In the dressage section, Young made it through to the second round and Dowley through to the third but, despite a gallant attempt, they failed to go any further in the competition. In show jumping Brian Morrison also made it through to the third round, but again failed to progress.

Although the trio didn’t get the results that they were hoping for on this occasion, Ireland remains in a good position to retain the Presidents Cup, which is awarded to the team with the highest combined results during the year in SRNC’s.

This year, the coveted prize will be presented at the World Student finals in Wellington Florida, which takes place at the end of the year. Ireland is in a very good position at this point having claimed victory in Romania in May and second in Sweden in July.
