AT each of the four Sports Pony Challenge qualifiers, a starter stakes combined training competition was held and qualifiers from this series enjoyed their own final at Barnadown on Tuesday.
The winner was Oscar O’Connor from Cleariestown, Co Wexford riding his mother Susan’s Doylan Chilli Pepper, a 12-year-old grey gelding by Hollyland Picasso out of the Rhosaur Vogue mare Penboeth Sable. This combination is not only known on the showing scene but competes under both Showjumping Ireland and Dressage Ireland rules.
Lara Field, who competed in the 133cms SPC final where she finished eighth on Dunmaster, was second and third here on ponies owned by her mother, Marjorie Hardiman.Their runner-up was the home-bred Creganna Dancer, a 10-year-old coloured mare by Jacket’s Goldfinch, while the Oranmore duo’s third-placed pony was the 12-year-old Knockskeagh Prince gelding Glandrine Pied Piper who was bred in Drimoleague, Co Cork by Jimmy O’Regan.
TRI Equestrian provided vouchers as prizes for this final and also presented rugs to each winner of the SPC leagues where the results were calculated on the top three out of a possible four scores throughout the qualifiers.
The score keepers for Tuesday’s finals day were Jane Power and Hilary McHugh.
